What does biologico mean?

The word biologico is made of two words: bio – logico. Bio means life, so, bio-logico sends to the “logic of life”. Bio agriculture is a method of production that cares about human and animal welfare in defense of environmental and cultural biodiversity: it refers to a sustainable model that cares about enivironmental safeguard.
We speak about Bio agriculture only if European laws are respected.
These rules establish that:
- Grounds must be protected from pollution
- It is forbidden to use chemical fertilizers
- It is forbidden to use genetically modified organisms
- Cultivation methods must respect nature and animals welfare.
Only when production method is consistent with European laws, the firm can use BIO labels to identify its products. This label is based on numbered certificates that allow to track productions and transactions, in order to take care about consumers and trade good faith.
The truth of Bio certificate is granted by a control authority, allowed by Agricultural and Food Min-istry, that makes some checks regularly.
Firms, as Molino Rossetto, that offers Bio products have marked the beginning of a new, but actu-ally ancient, interest about healthy and conscious cultivation. Costs of Bio products are a bit higher but these costs are offset by environmental advantages.
